Donington BSB: Mossey bags second in points chase

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey started the first MCE British Superbike race at Donington Park from the front row, and also clinched his first podium victory of the season after finishing second in race-one.

The young gun had a strong pre-season testing regime and it has benefitted him as he started the first round from where he left off after the recent Spanish tests at Cartagena. For 2017 he has remained with the Bournemouth Kawasaki team and on the ZX-10RR and is feeling confident with his race pace.

Mossey admitted that in the opening race he was unable to stay with his team-mate, and double race winner, Leon Haslam. He felt that he was going over the limit, by tying to keep up with the Smalley rider and was making some mistakes out on track.

But he kept the pace, and his consistency meant that he was able to hold on to second place as he crossed the finishing line. In race-two Mossey ended the race weekend in fifth, just behind Be Wiser Ducati’s Glenn Irwin and Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon.

Mossey is now second in the overall BSB championship standings, and has a total of 31 points and a valuable three podiums credits to his name, after a solid haul at the sunny Leicestershire circuit.

“Leon is just on it around here. I just had a go at the start and I tried to stay with him and staying with him in the first race,” said Mossey, speaking at the circuit.

“I felt that I was going over the limit and I was making quite a few mistakes. So I came back to my comfort zone, and remained consistent. I then maintained the speed and being 1-2 for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team is a great start to the season in race one.”
