JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam will start from pole in the first MCE British Superbike race of 2017 at his home track of Donington Park, after an impressive 1’29.323 during free practice two.
Superpole was cancelled this afternoon due to track contamination from an earlier race, and the combined free practice times were taken into consideration and when all the times were put together Haslam onboard his ZX-10R came out on top.
It is a strong start for Haslam, but his team had a plan, and on the ‘rare’ occasion the plan came together perfectly for the former World Superbike star. He has gelled well with his bike and his team, particularly after a useful winter pre-season test in Cartagena.
“From my side pole position is fantastic, but obviously not how I wanted it with the circumstances with the big crashes and the oil,” said Haslam, from the track.
“We had a really good winter and created a really good team and worked in a really good way in every session. Yesterday in the dry we pretty much had a plan, and it went to plan and that is sometimes rare, and for me that got us a pole position.
“I feel pretty confident in the dry and I managed to do a few laps in the rain this morning to try and find that step as well.”
