GBmoto Kawasaki’s James Ellison says he will have to further adapt his riding style to the ZX-10R if he wants to break through the laptime brick wall he hit during MCE British Superbike testing at Donington Park yesterday.
The Kendal man, who has switched from the YZF-R1 over the winter, started the day brightly posting fast times in the drying second session but as soon as he got to the mid-1’31s, progress halted.
“I hit a laptime brick wall, really. It didn’t matter whether we used new or used tyres, I couldn’t seem to get any quicker than the mid-1’31s, which we could do all day,” said Ellison, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“The chassis is great and it feels really well-balanced so I will have to further adapt my riding style to the bike as it is very easy to fall back into the habits of the past.
“At Snetterton, I should also have the same higher-spec engine as Chris (Walker, team-mate) ran at Donington. I also just need a bit more time on the bike, but we’re moving in the right direction. It's obvious the bike is good as Chris was doing some good times on it.”
