Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland has targeted a second appearance in the MCE British Superbike Showdown phase for 2014 and believes that sticking with the same team for another season is key.
Westmoreland made a tearful entry into the final six at Donington Park last year and finished the season in by far his best ever championship position. He also thinks that having the experience of Ryuichi Kiyonari in the team can only make it stronger.
"I am happy to have a second year here as I have never really had that in my career, and it is probably something that I have lacked, so I am looking to improve on my performances from last year. I had my best year ever, and BMW's best year in 2013 so I will looking to go one better,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at Donington Park.
"The team is now strengthened with Kiyo here and it will help me too. We can help each other, and he is potentially the best team-mate I will ever have. We have a strong team and we can only get better and have a great year. I want to make it into the Showdown, and the grid is pretty much the same as last year, but a lot of riders have swapped bikes, but there are only a few riders who have stayed on the same bikes, including myself, Shakey and Tommy Bridewell. So I think I will have a good chance of a Showdown spot again.
"Testing has been going well, and I have been creeping up the standings which is good and I have seen my lap times improve at Donington and I’m going quicker and keeping up with the top three riders, so hopefully this consistent form will continue. But the team are all working hard on the bike, and I am trying hard too, so everything is going in the right direction, and I cant wait for racing to finally start again at Brands Hatch in a few weeks time."
