JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s James Westmoreland spent the opening day of MCE British Superbikes working on his used-tyre pace and made a laptime jump this afternoon which he says he needs to do again tomorrow.
The Yorkshireman ended the day in ninth place after sitting in third for a bug chunk of the second session but didn’t try for a time-attack lap on the softer Pirelli SC0, preferring to keep his SC1 and work on race pace.
“I was still able to 1’30s after 19 laps on the tyre so that’s good. We changed quite a lot of stuff on the electronics and the chassis because I am still struggling in a couple of areas but we made a good jump,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
“We need to make the same again now. I was third for most of the session and doing 1’30s on an old tyre so I think for the race we are in quite a good position. The jump we made from FP1 to FP2 we need to make again in FP3 and then we will be in a good place. I’m pleased to have jumped on the bike and we are strong straight away.”
