On Friday at Thruxton, Glenn Irwin made his debut on the Yamaha R1 in the Nitrous Competitions Racing garage.

For the first time since the 21st of June, Glenn Irwin was back out on track for a British Superbike race weekend.

However, the Northern Irishman was not out on track on his usual Ducati Panigale V4 R, but instead is now competing on a Yamaha R1.

The #2 is now riding for the Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha squad and had a positive first day in his new garage, but was 'frustrated' to miss out on Q2.

"That wind was quite tough, as one of the taller riders on the grid with an older school riding style, I was getting caught by the wind around Village, Goodwood and Church," Irwin said after his first day on the R1.

"Physically, from an injury point of view, I feel completely fine. But after six or seven weeks off of the bike, I have quite a lot of arm pump, which I don't usually get.

"But we are playing about with some of the positions of the levers, so I think we can address that and make a quick fix to that.

"I am a little bit frustrated. I went out behind Kyle [Ryde] to have a go at getting into Q2. But I blew Church, and I ended up missing out by half a tenth.

"It is pleasing because we know we were so close and that was not our limit, because I made some big mistakes. I had a go a couple of laps later, but the tyre was past its best, but again it was two tenths off, putting us in.

"I was riding around being careful because everyone has told me to try not to crash. But you want to go to the limit, but you don't want to crash, so they don't agree with each other, so it is about finding balance."
