After six weeks away from racing, Glenn Irwin returned to the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton with Nitrous Competitions Racing.
At Thruxton, Glenn Irwin returned to the British Superbike Championship for the first time since sustaining injuries in Free Practice Three at Snetterton.
In the build-up to his return, there had been plenty to discuss regarding his split from Hager PBM Ducati and his decision to join Nitrous Competitions Racing.
However, when the time came, Irwin got down to business and was fighting for points across all three races in Hampshire.
On Saturday, he narrowly missed out on his first points with the Yamaha R1 as he finished 16th in Race One. But he did not have to wait much longer, as on Sunday he finished 15th in Race Two and 17th in Race Three.
The Northern Irishman was able to leave Thruxton after finishing all three races and a point to his name with his new team.
In a post on social media, Irwin discussed his return from injury and his debut with his new team and bike:
"First weekend in Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha colours!
"We are back racing, which is the big positive, adapting to a new bike, new time and new components!
"Six weeks ago, after I had my pelvic surgery, I would never have believed I would have been racing at Thruxton, but as the days went on, I knew this healing journey was going to surprise us all, including myself!
"The weekend was tough physically, zero pain around my injury, but returning to racing, getting comfortable on a new bike, you end up compensating in other areas, and today I feel like I have been hit by a bus!
"The last race I enjoyed a lot, for the first 15 laps my pace was strong, I thought we had something to get to the top 10 but my front tyre had dropped off a cliff in the final few laps, before that there was lots of hard racing amongst everyone and it was nice to get the feeling of “passing” again!
"Few days off to relax with the family as we go to Southern Ireland before Freddie races this weekend in Cork! Then it’s Cadwell Park for more progression!"
