Hopkins, Byrne get behind call for Transatlantic Trophy return

Current MCE British Superbike and former MotoGP riders John Hopkins and Shane Byrne have got behind a call to re-introduce the Brits V American Transatlantic Trophy races.

The races, which were last staged at during the 1980s, pitted the best riders from both sides of the Atlantic against each other with names like Kevin Schwantz, Barry Sheene, Paul Smart and Wayne Rainey all involved.

Motoamerica star Josh Herrin began a Twitter conversation about resurrecting the series which garnered support from Byrne, Hopkins and upcoming star James Rispoli - and even BSB ringmaster Stuart Higgs getting involved.
