'I don't think they were prepared to wait on me' - Glenn Irwin discusses his PBM split

Glenn Irwin has questioned PBM's 'commitment and trust' in him after they parted ways ahead of his BSB return.

Glenn Irwin has spoken out about his split from the Hager PBM Ducati squad in a recent interview and has expressed that he doesn't believe PBM 'were prepared to wait on me'.

Back in June, Irwin suffered fractures to his hip socket and pelvis in a British Superbike Free Practice Three crash at Snetterton. He then had to undergo surgery on his sacrum (pelvic region) as part of his treatment.

The initial target was to see Irwin back on track at Cadwell Park across the August Bank Holiday. However, the 35-year-old was declared fit to race at Thruxton this weekend.

But on Tuesday, the 5th of August, PBM announced that they would be mutually parting ways with Irwin 'as a result of a point of conflict' over his planned return.

After the recent moves and discussions, Irwin is now questioning the team's 'commitment and trust' in him, after he showed trust in them in 2024.

"I didn't sign a contract for 2024 until that March. I was committed and trusting," Irwin told BBC Sport NI.

"PBM did get going, and I sat there waiting. I don't think they were prepared to wait on me this year.

"The injury was one thing, and having to deal with what comes next, but there were also a lot of other things to deal with.

"I got passed orthopaedically fit in all the stage one examinations that are required and got second and third opinions as well, but the team, for whatever reason, didn't value that."

Despite departing PBM, Irwin will be on the grid at Thruxton as he has signed for Nitrous Competitions OMG Racing and will compete on a Yamaha R1 for the remainder of the season.

"There's one bike, and this sport is expensive. It's a big ask to put two Ducatis out.

"It's been really tough. When you work so hard to come back from injury, you want that encouragement when you get positive news.

"When you go to trusted medics, I certainly value what they say. These are the guys you are trusting with your life.

"I know what I've been doing in training and it's been great. I'm fit to ride and hopefully we can show that this weekend."
