Bathams Honda's Tommy Bridewell has said it was a miracle he wasn't badly hurt in the second MCE British Superbike race collision with Karl Harris where the Devizes rider came off at more than 160mph.
The strawberry blonde rider suffered just a gash in his leg where he thinks Harris' footpeg dug into the flesh and is now laid up at home with a splint, waiting for the swelling to go down. But he says it could have been much worse.
Harris's team have said he lost his front brakes after a coming together with Peter Hickman tore the hose off the caliper, leaving the Yorkshireman with not much in the way of stopping power, and he also ended up in the airfence - fortunately unscathed.
"It was like being sideswiped by a car. There was a bang and there I was sliding down the track with my bum and shoulders getting very warm. I saw my bike go into the airfence and lift it up and that is really what I needed to hit," said Bridewell, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
"I thought I had broken something when I was laying there with the bike on my back and the paramedic sounded a bit nervous. Maybe he thought I had a compound fracture because of the blood coming out of my leg, but it was a miracle I wasn't more seriously hurt. My Dainese kit really did its job.
"My right leg is about twice the size of my left one now and it's in a splint. The first week is the worst and it's frustrating because I can't go training but I don't want to damage it any further.
"We will be back for Oulton. I am not saying I will be 100 per cent fit but I am looking to come away from there with two good point-scoring finishes. Start the season again, you could say."
