Leon Haslam has a flat-out week on his hands as he flies back from Suzuka Eight-Hours testing on Thursday just in time for the Snetterton MCE British Superbike round before returning to the Land of the Rising Sun on Monday for the final endurance race preparations.
The JG Speedfit Kawasaki man, who is riding at the Japanese track until tomorrow night, has had a lot of wet sweather riding at Suzuka so far and is looking forward to three dry days at the Norfolk track, where he tested well a couple of weeks ago.
Haslam was just behind Laverty in terms of laptimes in the test and says he could do with a completely dry weekend in order to get in some race-distance runs.
“We did the Snetterton test a couple of weeks back and I had also just come back from Suzuka then. We had a nightmare on the first day and then set the quickest time on the second so it didn’t take me long to get used to no electronics and Pirelli tyres again,” said Haslam, speaking to Bikesport News from Japan.
“We were on lap record pace and the settings also worked at Knockhill, which was the first time we hadn’t made big changes from one track to the next. I would have liked to have done more race runs and distance work but the rain put paid to that.
“Now we’ve got the correct tank and seat unit, and now the balance of the bike is working better. Of course, I always want to win every race. At Knockhill we had the pace wet and dry, which I didn’t expect as I hadn’t been there for so long but it clicked straightaway.
“As we have tested at Snetterton so there is no reason why we can’t hit the ground running on Friday, focusing on race runs and setup with a consistent weather weekend.”
