Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes says he is on his best Knockhill pace since he bagged the MCE British Superbike pole position back in 2010 even after adjusting from the massive speed of the Isle of Man.
The Bringelly Bomber, which he will hate to be called, hasn't been faster than the 48.486s lap which put him in top spot on the HM Plant Honda but dipped under that and the 2006 pole position set by today's fastest man Shane Byrne to go second quickest.
"The first few laps felt a bit strange yesterday. Not because of the actual speed but it seems like the time it takes from spotting my apex and then getting to it is taking ages. I suppose that's because my brain is used to waiting for the apex to appear from behind a wall or a lamppost," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening.
"We changed some things for the first few exits and I was struggling for a little bit of grip, then something else changed, so we put those changes back to where they were and found a load of speed. This is the fastes I've been since 2009 here and it feels great.
"I haven't done a lot in terms of race distance laps but the bike feels good and we have got the outright speed, as the qualifying lap showed. I think I can do a fast, consistent pace in both races tomorrow, but that will all change if it rains."
