Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne has won at every MCE British Superbike round so far this year, but his record was nearly broken today. Buildbase BMW's Ryuichi Kiyonari nearly did the double, but the English triple champ managed to hold the BMW at bay to take the race two victory.
Byrne, who did the double at the Scottish track last year, struggled in the opening race and didn’t feel comfortable with the front end of the bike. But his team worked hard, and he was able to keep up with Kiyo to battle for the win, his 57th of his career.
“Kiyo has been the man to beat this weekend, and he has been riding phenomenally and his pace has been so fast," said Byrne, at the Fife circuit.
"We struggled all weekend a bit, which is really strange as we did the double at Knockhill last year and the bike was really good, but we have been chasing the front feeling of the bike, but we made a big change for race two.
"In the race I decided to go out there and try my best, and I put down some fast laps but then Kiyo was right behind me and then he overtook me and then I got the better of him, and we were so close and he didn’t really relent.
“But big credit to Johnny my crew chief as I worked my team like dogs this weekend my as I haven’t been happy, and hopefully my win will pay them back for all the hard work that they have done.”
