RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon scored his first front row MCE British Superbike start, as his 48.398 lap time was good enough to place his ZX-10RR second on the starting grid at Knockhill.
The 21-year-old did in fact have a small crash with just under two minutes remaining to the qualifying session, but he was unhurt after his incident at the chicane, and even managed to hold on to second fastest on the timesheets.
Dixon was also involved in a big crash during the opening free practice session on Friday, but his team worked hard to get his Kawasaki ready in time for FP2 and for qualifying today.
The youngster is a little bit disappointed after his off, as he felt he could have gone even quicker in qualifying, and potentially bag that coveted pole position. When the chequered flag appeared at the side of the Fife track Dixon was only one tenth slower than pole-setter, Luke Mossey.
“In a way I am happy, but in a way I am a bit disappointed. We were on a good lap on that last lap and I really didn’t think I went into the hairpin that hot, and I thought I was two tenths up on the dash, but unfortunately went down,” said Dixon.
“I want to say a big thanks to the team. Yesterday I went down on track and it absolutely wrote the bike off, and I only managed to go out for the last ten minutes of FP2 so the boys did an amazing job and big thanks to them.”
