Tyco BMW’s Christian Iddon continued the team’s good weekend at Knockhill as he topped the timesheets in the final practice at the Fife circuit, just edging out Bennetts Suzuki’s Ryuichi Kiyonari.
His team-mate, and yesterday’s fastest man Michael Laverty was one of the first to go top in what was a tricky session, with the Knockhill circuit wet but drying out, which prompted a number of riders to consider their options.
The early laps saw times sitting mostly in the 52-second bracket, with Laverty top but soon passed by Buildbase BMW’s Richard Cooper and then a sterling effort from Jake Dixon on the RAF BMW saw him move second.
As the track continued to dry out, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Leon Haslam put in a fine lap for second as Honda’s Jason O’Halloran went top soon after.
Some riders, including the likes of Peter Hickman chose not to gamble too much, opting to sit in the pit for much of the weather-affected session.
Tyco BMW’s Iddon wasn’t one of those though, as the track continued to dry the Stockport man emerged from pit-lane with an intermediate front and slick rear.
The move worked well, with Iddon first moving into second place as Cooper hit the front and Be Wiser Ducati’s Shane Byrne – on the same tyre choice as Iddon – went top after that.
Bennetts Suzuki’s Ryuichi Kiyonari was looking back to his best too, the Japanese chasing Byrne into second and then going round the Scottish circuit next time round in 50.718 to take top.
However, Iddon had other ideas as he continued to work hard on the laps – he did 34 in all – and with just a few minutes remaining he blasted the BMW around Knockhill to finish the third session top of the timesheets.
A pleasing final session for Ducati saw their three bikes come next, with Byrne and team-mate Glenn Irwin sandwiching Moto Rapido’s Danny Buchan in fourth.
Cooper finished sixth, ahead of the JG Speedfit duo of James Ellison and Haslam as Dixon and O’Halloran rounded out the top ten in Scotland.
