Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne starts the first MCE British Superbike race at Knockhill tomorrow from the front row – but it's not pole for the triple champ, as he starts from third on the grid. But bagging that number one spot is not important to the rider.
His goal was the front row, so it's mission accomplished for the Englishman, who is now looking forward to a battle with pole-setter, Buildbase BMW’s Ryuichi Kiyonari and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes.
“Pole position isn’t important – as long as I am on the front row then I am happy. To be on the front row at a circuit like this is especially important,” said Byrne, at the track.
“The boys did a great job, but the rain started to fall a bit and I was thinking that I didn’t want to push this hard. But fair play to Kiyo and Josh and my team, as they did a good job and we were there until the end, so it should be good tomorrow.”
