Primo Bournemouth Kawasaki’s Chris Walker crashed in the early moments of yesterday’s opening British Superbike free practice session at Knockhill causing him to break both of his heels.
After spending the night in a cast Walker was able to cut it off, pass a fitness test and, although he sat out this morning's final practice, qualify 17th for tomorrow’s first British Superbike race.
Walker described qualifying as uncomfortable but he will be looking to salvage some points tomorrow and help his hunt for a place in the Showdown
“I ran through in a higher gear than the lap before causing me to run a little bit wider and hit a puddle. It spat me up in the air and I landed on my feet which is what caused the injury,” said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com this evening about the crash.
“Qualifying was uncomfortable because Knockhill is such an all-action track and it didn’t help that I had to alter my riding style as I couldn’t use the back brake as much as I would of liked to; changing gear wasn’t as bad as I anticipated though. We’ve altered the setting of the bike to be more comfortable and easier to ride rather than that of before where I was looking to challenge for a podium.
“I’m knocking on the door of the top six and this weekend is ideal to try close the gap on Stuart Easton with him unfortunately not being here. I’ve just got to give it a try really and hopefully I can score some points.”
