Swan Yamaha's Michael Laverty has undergone surgery in Belgium to fix the arm-pump which hampered his progress at the Oulton Park British Superbike round earlier in the season and now has 15 days to be fit to ride at Knockhill.
The Toomebridge man has had his right arm operated on twice before to try and rid him of the affliction (which is called compartment syndrome) but he decided to go to a specialist in Belgium to sort it out once and for all this time.
"I've had the surgery twice before and it just came back so I decided to see the guy a lot of the world's best motocross riders use and came here straight from Thruxton. It's gone well and now I should be fit for Knockhill," said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon from his hospital bed after 'being a bit sick'.
"The specialist said that when it had been done before, only one of the compartments had been sorted out but now he has done all three. I had it done in 2001 and 2004 but the problem kept coming back. Hopefully now I'm rid of it. Some GP riders have been racing again after 10 days, so I should be easily ok to ride in Scotland."
