Max Cook 'felt like Marquez' after his huge final chicane save

A return to the rostrum on Saturday has Max Cook 'more prepared' for the two Sunday races at Thruxton.

For the first time in the 2025 British Superbike season, Max Cook featured on the podium as he finished in third place in Race One at Thruxton.

In the latter laps of the race, the 21-year-old was battling with Kyle Ryde and Danny Kent for victory. But some late moments, including a final chicane save, saw him cross the line in third.

"It was an awesome Thruxton race, I am just so happy to be on the podium to be fair," Cook said after claiming his first podium of the season.

"Obviously, the good thing is that we have two more races, so those scary moments that I just had mean we can smooth out the bike and adjust it.

"I can also come more prepared tomorrow [Sunday], and go one step better, or two steps better.

"But those scary moments, they just caught me off guard. There were some strong headwinds at the top of the track.

"The Kawasaki hooks up really nicely, and the grip that it gives you on corner exit is so good. But for the other guys, perhaps it doesn't, so I was trying to use my line and go around the guys.

"But when people would come across me, I would just get sucked in, and it was like my brakes did not work.

"I was really lucky to stay on, but it was all under control. I doubt you will believe me, but it was, I promise.

"When I saw Kyle and Danny drop the gun, I knew it was my moment to go as well, so I was just letting the bike have it, and I was full gas everywhere.

"I had another enormous moment in the last chicane. I fully lost the front; I felt like Marquez, but I probably did not look like it.

"I folded the front, but I was waiting for it to come back. It is my third year with the bike now, and I understand it so well that I know where the limit is."
