Update: Byrne has broken his hand in today's crash and will have an operation this evening
Quattro Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey continued to lead the way on the second day of MCE British Superbike testing at Almeria while reigning champion Shane Byrne was taken to the medical centre after a crash in the afternoon.
Byrne saved a highside but couldn’t escape the on-coming gravel trap and he went down. Trackside reports say he hasn’t suffered any serious injury in the accident but has been transferred to a local hospital for checks on his hand and ankle.
Mossey, meanwhile, held a tenth of a second advantage over Buildbase BMW’s Lee Jackson with his 1’37.3 as the pair upped their respective game by half a second today. Byrne put in the same time as Jackson, a 1’37.4, while his PBM Kawasaki team-mate Stuart Easton ended fourth and a further four-tenths further back.
PBM’s third rider Ian Hutchinson was next along on a 1’38.3, which was matched by Morello Kawasaki new-boy Daniel Johnson while Howie Mainwaring is a little off the pace on a 1’38.8, just behind Victor Cox on the second Morello bike.
