Padgetts Honda British Superspot rider James Webb has been banned from competition until the end of July following an inquiry into a crash between himself and Centurion Honda’s Dennis Hobbs at Thruxton.
Hobbs sustained dislocated his shoulder in the crash as is unable to ride this weekend, but is in the paddock.
A statment from the MCRCB said: "The Padgetts Motorcycle Honda rider breached two MCRCB agreements, Article B1.7 – careless riding in the course of a meeting (departing from the standard of a reasonable purdent competent rider). Secondly article B1.6 – any proceeding or act of prejudice to the interest of the MCRCB or of motor sport generally (in this instance making public statements likely to bring the sport into disrepute), this was referring to his comments he made on TV following the incident."
The inquiry spoke with both the racers, the riders who were immediately behind the incident and considered the report from the senior marshal at the scene, the TV broadcast footage and still photographs and it was determined that Webb was at fault for the crash.
Webb will be excluded from two events with the imposition of the penalty suspended from the second of May 2008 to the 31st July 2008. The penalty of a severe reprimand was reduced in the light of an apology to Dennis Hobbs regarding his public comments, no appeal has been lodged.
