Oulton BSB: Byrne ‘excited’ with race-pace after bagging pole

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki's Shane Byrne stormed to the top of the qualifying timesheets to bag the number one spot on the grid for tomorrow’s first MCE British Superbike race at Oulton Park, and the impressive times set by the triple champ have left him feeling ‘excited’ for the double header tomorrow.

Byrne left it till Q3 to put in the fastest lap of the weekend so far a 1’34.557 – going one four-hundredths of a second slower than the outright lap record at the Cheshire track. Karl Harris record of 1’34.515 that he clocked in 2006 still stands – for now.

Byrne overcame the issues of the opening day to fire in a lap under the lap record to claim his first pole position of season, and the improvements made to his bike have certainly paid off.

“I was pretty excited when that time popped up. We had done a 1m:34.9s on a used tyre, so I knew that I could make some improvements but that time is great,” said Byrne.

“Now we have to make the right choice, depending on track temperatures, on tyres for the race but we have done our homework on them so hope we will make the right decision.”
