Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne is still in shock after he nabbed pole from Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes during the MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Oulton Park.
A 1’35.463 was enough to place the triple-champ on the number one spot on the grid and was a half a tenth quicker than the Australian. But Byrne was still under lap record pace, and didn’t go faster than the time set by Brookes in FP3 today.
“I thought I was in P2, I didn’t realise I was on pole till I got back to the pits. All I wanted was the front row and I thought that I had done enough for that – and I did,” said Byrne at the circuit.
“But we were all a bit surprised to be honest – but happy. The team have work to do on the bike and we are still hoping to improve but we have been chipping away this weekend."
