Carbontek BMW’s David Johnson took his debut championship victory this afternoon, comfortably winning the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 race.
Series leader Keith Farmer got the holeshot with Victor Cox and Johnson following behind him. The Aussie quickly started to move forward however, firstly going past Cox and then past Farmer on the brakes into Island Bend to take the lead.
As Johnson cleared into the distance setting the fastest lap of the race, Steve Brogan and Jason O’Halloran scrapped for fourth and fifth before the Safety Car was brought out on lap seven.
As the Safety Car pulled in Johnson came under no threat from the chasing pack to take his first victory since 2006 in the Dutch Superbike Championship.
ILR Kawasaki’s Cox moved past Farmer to take second and Jason O’Halloran got the better of Howie Mainwaring and Steve Brogan to get fourth before the red flag was brought at two thirds race distance. Leaving Oulton Park Farmer has stretched out his Championship lead to 6 points over O’Halloran.
Tyco Suzuki’s American youngster took a creditable seventh on his debut race ahead of Adam Jenkinson and Jimmy Storrar, who is now 13 points off of Farmer in the Championship. Lee Costello rounded out the top ten.
