Oulton BSB: Hickman edges ever closer to the top six after podium success

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Peter Hickman has closed the gap on Tyco BMW’s Michael Laverty in the overall MCE British Superbike championship standings by eleven points, with the ZX-10R racer currently seventh in the table.

Hickman was part of an historic all JG Speedfit podium, after holding off the challenges from Honda Racing’s Jason O’Halloran to finish third in the first of three races at Oulton Park.

The road racing star was happy that he didn’t make any mistakes out on track, but did find the last few laps a bit difficult. Now he is looking forward to challenging for rostrums again tomorrow.

“Massive to be part of the JG Speedfit Kawasaki one, two, three and it is the first in history and it is a brilliant weekend. I had a little tip off yesterday and other than that the bike has been working really well,” said Hickman at the track.

“I knew the race pace for us was going to be good and we were going to be strong towards the end and I just needed to keep my head. The last few laps were really difficult.

“Jason was closing in quite a lot and it put the pressure on massively especially when I knew we could get a one, two three and I had to not make any mistakes. We knew this weekend was going to be close and I am pleased.”
