Oulton BSB: ‘I had to accept second today’ – Brookes

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes just missed out on pole during today’s MCE British Superbike qualifying session at Oulton Park, but it’s not all bad for the Northern Ireland based rider as he still start's race one from the front row.

He only missed out on the number one spot on the grid by three tenths of a second to Rapid Solicitors Kawsaki’s Shane Byrne, and the Aussie still managed to beat the lap record set by Ryuichi Kiyonari in 2006 by nearly a second.

Brookes did top the time-sheets in both Q1 and Q2, but couldn’t find that extra pace to edge Byrne off the top spot, and now he’s feeling a tad disappointed.

“I had to accept second today but I tried really hard to try and get it back at the end. I did a whole heap of laps in the 1'34's and so I suppose I am a little bit disappointed not to have pole, but at the same time I am happy to be on the front row,” said Brookes.

“We have been consistent with our times and our race set up is heavily in our favour for tomorrow’s races, but all credit to Shakey. Tomorrow is more important to me so we will see what we can do then.”
