The Buildbase BMW team have hailed it their ‘best weekend’ in the MCE British Superbike Championship after their rider, Ryuichi Kiyonari did the double at Oulton Park over the weekend.
The Japanese rider successfully held off the charges from Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne in both races one and two, in mixed conditions, proving to fans that King Kiyo is back and is in the title run once again.
Kiyonari is yet to secure his place in the Showdown, but is definitely a contender after two first and a fourth place finish. This puts him third overall in the championship standings, and his crew are confident they can challenge for the title too.
“We would have liked three wins out of three, but if you told just before the weekend that we could get two wins then we would have taken it - it is out best weekend in BSB that we have had by a mile, said Kiyo’s crew chief, Steve Hicken, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“We wanted a dry race but to be fair we owe it all to Kiyo and he has got a good bike setting and its all there now. He is definitely back and we want to secure a Showdown spot and want to be competitive in the last three races - we want to be there at the top. We have got a good chance of challenging for the championship and it looks like it will be between Kiyo, Joshua and Shakey.”
