SP125/Brookhouse Racing's Rob Guiver scored valuable points in the Sunoco 125GP Championship at Oulton Park over the weekend in treacherous conditions in which he still claimed a podium spot.
The Rainham rider has narrowly missed out on clinching the championship title the past two years and is hoping in the third year since his return he can finally put that demon to rest. Currently Guiver leads the championship by 20 points; despite two non scoring rounds he has constantly finished in the top three which included three wins.
Talking about his season so far, he said: “It's been going really well, it was really good at the start of the year with the three wins in a row, really strong. It sort of went a bit wonky at Knockhill and we had a really good meeting at Snetterton but I got to the race and had a problem with the bike. We were really lucky to finish second.”
“There are some really good young riders coming up, every meeting you get a new rider that is quick, that have been quite good you know. You've got to keep scoring all the time it's so important. I am fed up of the wet, Knockhill was bad enough. This time of year and especially with weather like this you've got to think about points.”
Guiver continues to run the Honda 125 that he has had for the past three years and is still challenged by the variety of young talent that is thrown against him. Over the weekend and focusing on the points Guiver still managed to pick 16 points riding in conditions, he said: “I have never ridden in conditions like that, it was a joke.”
The 125GP Championship was one of the last races to take place prior to the Cheshire event being cancelled for safety conditions, but at least Guiver managed to battle the weather to extend his championship lead.
