Anvil Hire TAG Kawasaki’s Scott Smart and Glen Richards have come away from their first MCE British Superbike free practice sessions at Oulton Park with their temporary team unscathed.
The veteran pair are standing in for the crocked Mitchell Carr, who is nursing a shoulder injury and Richard Cooper, who is suffering a broken arm, and it is a case of so far so good for the former team-mates.
It has been ten years since the duo last raced together in the same team, and they are enjoying the rivalry once again – even if it is a little scary being back on track for them both.
“The scenery goes past really, really quickly and I was thinking this bike goes really fast – this was a silly idea! But at the end I wanted to push harder and to go faster,” said Smart, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the team garage.
“I didn’t know what to expect, and I was a little nervous at first, and probably the most nervous I have felt in a long, long time. But halfway through the session I got some rhythm and in the end was only two seconds off Shakey and we have got to there and now we have to find two seconds – but I don’t know where that is going to come from,” said Richards, speaking to us from the track.
“We don’t know if we will be together at Cadwell, as Mitchell has a shoulder injury and Coops has broken his arm, so I don’t think he will be back for Cadwell, and Mitch remains to be seen, but I do love Cadwell,” concluded Smart.
