Oulton BSB: Tyre woes leave Laverty puzzled

Samsung Honda's Michael Laverty was left scratching his head again following the Oulton Park British Superbike double bill yesterday after tyre probems saw him netting only a meagre points score.

The Prestigne resident should have revelled in the drying first race but couldn't make the progress he wanted to and the second saw him in equally bad shape and unable to push on the tyre he was given.

"We had the top six as our aim in the race held over from Brands hatch and if there had been more laps then perhaps we could have been even higher. It was good progress from the eighth row of the grid to finish sixth. I qualified for a second row start for the first Monday race, but the conditions made it tough going on a drying track and looking for the wet bits," said Laverty.

"I’m scratching my head as to why I didn’t do better as normally as I am good in those conditions, but my tyre was gone – I don’t know if I had a bad one, or the set-up we had was causing the wear. And the final race was hard work again. I tried to push on, tried to conserve my pace, but I didn’t have the tyres.”
