WFR Honda's Alex Lowes took his second MCE British Superbike pole position in a row at Silverstone this afternoon, going almost a second faster than reigning champion Tommy Hill in runner-up spot. Lowes' lap was first underneath the 2'06s barrier and is getting close to Cal Crutchlow's WSBK lap record of 2'05.259.

After making changes to his Samsung Honda in between sessions one and two, Michael Laverty bagged third place just ahead of series leader Josh Brookes. Shane Byrne heads row two and has Chris Walker, James Westmoreland and Barry Burrell for company. Danny Buchan didn't go out in the third session.

Qualifying two

Alex Lowes 2'06.460

Barry Burrell 2'06.771

Chris Walker 2'06.824

Barry Burrell and Chris Walker were the shock top men behind Lowes in the second which was red-flagged after Buchan's Bathams Kawasaki let go just before Stowe and Jakub Smrz crashed on the liquid it spilled, his Splitlath Aprilia catching fire in the gravel trap.

At the re-start Buchan had done enough to get into the final ten while Laverty, who changed his bike so much after the first session his team had to take a link out of the chain, went from 11th to sixth with the only lap he had available. Hill played it close and finished ninth, just scraping into the final session. Showdown contender Tommy Bridewell didn't make it through.

Qualifying one

Josh Brookes 2'07.019

Shane Byrne 2'07.081

Alex Lowes 2'07.352

Brookes just edged ahead of a fast-improving Byrne, who has only had one practice session at Silverstone so far due to inclement weather and a crash yesterday, while Lowes was also on the case right from the beginning of the session.

Showdown runner Bridewell was on the cusp of being relegated but managed to remain in the top 20 while Moto Rapido Ducati's Scott Smart used his final lap to haul himself up to 20th and dump Robbin Harms into the drop zone.
