A new minimum weight limit for V-twins issued by British Superbike bosses today is to bring some parity to the series now the inline four-cylinder bikes have caught up with the twin-cylinder Airwaves Ducatis.
That is the view of series boss Stuart Higgs, who issued the new rules earlier today. The new minimum weight of V-twins is now 172kg, down from the controverisal 175kg limit issued before the Donington Park round, with a two kilo tolerance. This includes all fuels, oils and on-board camera equipment at the end of a race.
"The new limit just brings a bit of parity to the series for the last part of the season," said Higgs. "It's clear the four-cylinder bikes have caught up in the last few rounds, so we reviewed the situation as we said we would earlier in the year and have decided to reduce the minimum weight by two kilos."
