T3 Racing Triumph’s John Simpson took the Fuchs-Silkolene British Supersport Cup Championship at Silverstone in Northamptonshire yesterday, winning the second race of the weekend which added to his Sprint race win on Saturday.
The Antrim rider qualified in pole for the Cup race and 14th on the overall grid. The first race of the weekend saw Simpson come over the line 23secs clear of his nearest Cup rival taking the win, he also finished 14th in the overall race.
With the lap times from race one determining the grid for race two Simpson was moved up the grid to tenth position. He worked hard to try and gain on the group in front of him. He came over the line with the Cup win and tenth place in the overall race.
Simpson said: “I’m a British Champion now, it’s still sinking in! In both races I really had to work hard, I just pushed and pushed. I was riding defensive lines for the first few laps then I realised there was no one behind me so I went for wider lines. I was catching them on the tight technical bits but was losing out on the straights. I got the title and a top ten finish so it’s all good.”
