BSB bosses have changed the fuel specification of the 125GP bikes after teams complained the series’ control fuel was leaving the two-strokes down on power with an increase in wear-and-tear.
Teams got together in the paddock and signed a collective agreement saying they were not happy with the fuel the four-strokes are running and asked series director Stuart Higgs to revert to a two-stroke specific fuel for the rest of the season, which he has.
“The multi-purpose fuel was tested by 125cc teams in Spain before the season and the riders said that it was ok. As time went on they believed it caused technical difficulties and they wanted to change. We asked them what they wanted to change to and they said a two-stroke specific fuel, which is what we have now done.”
Due to the change to the GP1 type fuel which is sued in the 125cc and 250cc GP categories, the 125cc championship was given a third practice session on Friday giving them extra time to adjust to the change. Immediately riders have noticed the increase in power and only time will tell if mechanically this has also been a benefit.
