Snetterton BSB: Harder tyre option the key for Brookes

Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes will start the MCE British Superbike race one from the front row, after a 1’47.974 was enough to put him second on the starting grid. The rider tried both the hard and softer tyre options, and found the harder compound benefited his bike more, than the S30’s.

Brookes used the harder tyre choice for his super fast lap, but however hard he tired he couldn’t out muster the pace of Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne, who once again placed his bike on pole. The Australian and his crew have been working hard on the rear of the bike, and the changes have proved fruitful this afternoon.

“I have been working through different steps with the motorbike, trying to improve the rear suspension of the bike - and the changes have been really positive,” said Brookes, at the track.

“The front has been perfect all weekend but we have been focusing on the rear. The bike was right where I wanted it and I was making good progress, and I have been using the SC1 harder tyre option nearly all the weekend.

"I then put the SC0 on and I didn’t see a big improvement, so I then put back in the SC1 and I had a good lap time from that – but it wasn’t enough to out pace Shakey.”
