Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland failed to take away any points for his team during this weekend’s MCE British Superbike championship at Snetterton after a crash in the opening race, and a technical problem in race two.
Westmoreland is annoyed after he was caught up in an incident on track with Honda Racing’s Julien Da Costa and left his crew in a race against time to get his bike ready for race two. The BMW was in a bad state of repair, and as a result of the earlier crash it reverberated into the final race of the day – where an electrical fault put an end to a ‘point-less’ weekend.
“I have come away from this race weekend with no points, which is a disaster and so annoying. All weekend we worked for the race and our race-pace was incredible. Our problem stemmed from Da Costa’s crash in race one,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com at the track.
“I was caught up in it and I then had to battle it out with Walker, Linfoot and Kiyo, and I was aiming for sixth as that was the best I could do, then I pushed as I didn’t want to finish in tenth and then I crashed, which was my fault.
“But then I had a technical problem in race two, because my bike was destroyed by the first crash. My team built me a brand new bike, and then I had a small electrical problem, but the boys did a great job to get my bike ready for the second race.
“I know my pace is good enough to be in the Showdown. I am looking forward to Knockhill and we tested there a few moths ago, and that was really successful and I was under lap record pace. So I am not too worried, as it’s a track I really enjoy.”
