Snetterton BSB test: ‘We could have gone quicker’ - Byrne

Three-time MCE British Superbike Champion Shane Byrne topped the final pre-season test timesheets at Snetterton yesterday with a lap-record breaking final stint but says he could have been faster.

The Kent-based rider went round in 1’47.955 which edged under his own record set in 2011 on a bike with full electronics compared to the ‘no rider aids’ Motec spec-ECU everyone now runs. He was only challenged by Jakub Smrz on the Millsport Ducati who was six-tenths slower but sat out the final session after a crash.

"This has been a good test for us and it shows that over the winter the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team haven't stood still. Snetterton for us in the past few years hasn't been our strongest track, but I have really worked well with the new 17" Pirelli tyres, so to come here and end like this has been great,” said Byrne.

“I did push in the final session for a lap, but I think if we had managed some more then we could have been even quicker so we are happy now and ready for Brands Hatch."
