'The goal is to win a British championship' says Burman

Phil Burman Racing's Sam Burman, another female to take on the challenge of british racing, talks to www.bikesportnews.com about her debut year in the Sunoco British 125GP championship in which she has already had a top 15 and 20 finish.

The 21 year old machinst has been on bikes all of her life and road racing since she was 14. After gaining immense experience through various club level series, Burman was at a point ready to take on one of the most competitive series in the country.

Reviewing the season so far, she said: “It's good, I'm enjoying it. We have had quite a bit of bad luck to be honest. We haven't had one weekend where it's all been positive yet, but generally we are going quite a bit faster than what I was last year, so I am pleased the lap times are coming done. We still have improvements to make, but you always do.”

“Our aim was to get in the top 20 and go from there, we are there or thereabouts with what we were aiming for. We are feeling that there is so much more there, but it's been niggly little problems that have been holding us back. We are on the same bike last year, we knew the machinery we had would be inferior to what was here, we expected that and it didn't put me off.”

Last year Burman finished an fourth in the Thundersport GB Championship in 2010 despite losing valuable points due to an incident at the last round. This year she has had some strong results despite being hampered by weather and machinery problems wthat has impacted on track time. Even though the Messingham rider stresses she doesn't mind the wet, there is no denying that it does effect the development progress in a new championship.

Talking about the future, Burman said: “I plan to stay at this level and move forward. This is a learning year, we will see what next year brings. To compete right at the top we are going to be held back by budget but I don't believe it's impossible. I am hear for one reason to win a british championship, that's the goal. I don't know when that will be, but that is the goal.”
