Thruxton BSB: Byrne continues to lead the way

HM Plant Honda's Shane Byrne has remained at the top of the British Superbike timesheets this afternoon, putting in the fastest lap in the second free practice session with the two Swan Yamahas right behind him.

Byrne set a 1'15.248 with two minutes left to go which deposed Tommy Hill from the number one slot. The Lingfield man had been four one-thousandths head of Byrne but the former WSB man just nabbed the lead back.

Michael Laverty is seven-tenths of a second off the pace in third with Motorpoint Yamaha's James Westmoreland in fourth, making it three R1s in the top four. Peter Hickman has continued his form from this morning and set fifth fastest time with a 1'16.105 on the Tyco Honda.

Samsung Suzuki's John Hopkins is sixth on a 1'16.152 and he is fractionally quicker than the Ducati pairing of Martin Jessopp and Michael Rutter who are both a second in arrears. Jon Kirkham set the ninth quickest time before sliding off unhurt at Goodwood at the end of the session. Buildbase BMW's Ian Lowry is tenth quickest on 1'16.404.

Alex Lowes is in 13th just behind Loris Baz while Ryuichi Kiyonari is not having a great time in 14th, just ahead of Steve Brogan and Gary Mason. with with Josh Brookes down in 17th.

Graeme Gowland is the fastest Evo rider in 18th place overall, Simon Andrews is second (19th) and Scott Smart third (22nd). Glen Richards crashed unhurt at Goodwood.
