Thruxton BSB: Byrne disheartened with two second place finishes

Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne came away with 40 points and two second place finishes during the MCE British Superbike double-header at Thruxton, but the rider is not too happy this evening.

He was looking to do the double, but that ended up going to Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes, and however hard Byrne tried he could not out manoeuvre the Australian today.

But it is not all bad for Byrne, as he is still the championship leader with an 82 point advantage, over Brookes, but the maximum 50 points is what he was after this afternoon. In a few days time he will take to the tracks at Oulton Park – where he has already been victorious this year, and he is looking to get up to the top step of the podium once again.

“In the second part we ran such a strong race. But we did not really improve from warm up, but the guys have worked hard and Josh did an awesome job, and I did enjoy the race. I want to go to Oulton and take the win there again, so that is what I am looking forward to," said Byrne.

“I have come away with 40 points today and two second place finishes, and I know that I should be ecstatic but I am not really. I rode my heart out, but in the end he [Brookes] was awesome.”
