RAF Reserves Kawasaki’s Jake Dixon believes he could have smashed the 1’14s barrier in today’s MCE British Superpole session at Thruxton if he’s had the same grip level in the final session as he had in the first.
Dixon knocked Anvil Hire TAG Yamaha’s Josh Brookes from the pole position spot in Hampshire with a 1’14.052 in the one-lap dash after showing good pace all weekend.
Even with less grip than he might have liked, Dixon was still able to put in the quickest time of the race weekend so far. For his best lap the Dover rider used the harder SC2 front tyre and the SC0 softer option rear Pirelli, and his crew have been working hard with both the SC1 and zero rear compounds.
“I felt good all weekend. We rolled out in FP1 and were quick straight away and Lee and the boys have done a fantastic job,” said Dixon at the track.
“I thought after Q2 that the grip was not as good with the tyre I had in Q1 and I thought I had a bit more grip in Q1. If I had a bit more grip I could have done a 1’13.
“I went through sector one quite well and sector two I mucked up and then I put the last sector together and I thought it was a good lap. Then I saw Josh’s lap and I thought why did he put in such a fast time in, as in Q2 I thought I was on the limit with the grip that I had. We have been working on race pace and I worked with both the one and the zero.”
