Thruxton BSB: Lowry takes charge in second session

Padgett's Honda man Ian Lowry has taken charge of proceedings in the second British Superbike free practice session at Thruxton this afternoon, edging Josh Brookes into runner-up spot with only a handful of minutes remaining, while Alex Lowes jumped into third with his final lap.

Lowry's was the quickest lap of the day at 1'15.841 but only just a tenth quicker than Shane Byrne went this morning while Brookes was only 0.017s behind the former chef. Lowes, on the WFR Honda, was only 0.025s behind the Australian while Byrne's PBM Kawasaki still less than a tenth in arrears.

Reigning champion Tommy Hill set the early pace with a 1'16.086 but slipped down the order to fifth while Michael Laverty, in sixth ended the session getting off the floor after crashing into the Club Chicane. Lowry's team-mate Luca Scassa is a little under three-tenths off the pace in seventh with James Westmoreland in eighth.

Veteran Chris Walker put his Primo Kawasaki in ninth, just ahead of Michael Rutter in tenth. BMW's Dan Linfoot slipped down to eleventh place after being as high as fourth with ten minutes left to run while Graeme Gowland finished in 12th. Jon Kirkham, Stuart Easton and Patric Muff rounded out the top 15.
