GBmoto Kawasaki’s Chris Walker was at the sharp end in both MCE British Superbike races at Thruxton and came away from the weekend with two top seven finishes, something he didn’t think was possible before Sunday.
The circuit has not been a favourite of the veteran racer for some years, but it is no longer his ‘nemesis’ and at one point in race two he was fighting with Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne and Milwaukee Yamaha’s Josh Brookes for the win.
But in the end his tyres gave up on him, and he slipped back to a respectable fifth. With his seventh place finish in the opening race it means that he stays inside the Showdown spots – which is important to the Kawasaki man.
“I was pushing very hard and I could hang in there for only ten laps and when the tyre took a dip I just couldn’t go with them. But when I overtook Shakey I thought I could win this, but then three laps later he was gone,” said Walker, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
"This track has been my nemesis over the past few years I think it is the first time I have had two top ten finishes since I can remember when. I have got a fifth and a seventh, and I am still in the top six in the championship and I am still in the Showdown, which is my aim and my goal. But fair play to the team who have given me a decent bike to ride this weekend."
