Thruxton BSB: Weekend a ‘learning curve’ for Kirkham

Halsall Racing’s Jon Kirkham is brimming with confidence after two solid finishes in yesterday’s MCE British Superbikes races at Thruxton.

Kirkham had his best result in the dry with his newish team -  sixth in race two. The Derby based rider started off the season with Tsingtao Racing but left and joined Martin Halsall, Jack Valentine and Co. and things are starting to look up for the tall lad.

In the final race of the day he successfully held off attacks from Tyco Suzuki’s John Hopkins, RAF Reserves Honda’s Peter Hickman, Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Stuart Easton and Quattro Plant Kawasaki’s Howie Mainwaring.

“It has been a big learning curve getting in with the Halsall team and I am impressed with it all - and having Jack there too, who I have worked with back in 2011 is great. I am also building up my confidence too, which is good,” said Kirkham, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“I was able to fend off Hopper and Hickman, and I caught Walker on the last lap, but it was a little bit too little too late. I lost the tow with the front group, but it is my best result in the dry this weekend. I am really happy and I am looking forward to going to Oulton with the Kawasaki, as I think we can do some damage.”
