Thruxton BSB: Westmoreland ‘hopeful’ of Oulton return

Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland is again out of MCE British Superbike action at Thruxton this weekend but hopes he can return to action at Oulton after having the wires removed from his broken thumb tomorrow.

The Yorkshireman had to sit out Brands after a crash at Knockhill saw him break his right thumb at the base, rendering his right hand almost useless as the wires have effectively immobilised his wrist, too. Not useful for racing with the throttle and front brake on the right handlebar.

“I’d rather have broken my leg to be honest, at least I could have ridden then but we will see what the surgeon says tomorrow when he takes out the wires and hopefully I can be back at Oulton Park next week,” said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com this afternoon.

“I will stay at home this weekend and get some real intensive physio on it. I need to do all I can to get back into the game. Lee will ride my bike again at Thruxton, he did a pretty good job at Brands Hatch.”
