Tommy Bridewell is 'more optimistic' off the back of his first win of the season

Honda Racing UK

This weekend marks the final round of the regular season, and Tommy Bridewell is aiming for more podiums.

Last time out at Cadwell Park, Tommy Bridewell returned to the top step of the British Superbike podium as he claimed victory in Race Two.

Securing a race win and a further podium has left Bridwell 'more optimistic', but he still remains unsure whether he can be as competitive at every round.

This weekend, Bridewell and Honda Racing UK return to Donington Park, where there will be four Sprint Races throughout the weekend.

Earlier in the season, when the British Superbike Championship visited Donington Park, it was a difficult weekend for the 2023 Champion as he crashed in Race One and then finished eighth and seventh in Races Two and Three.

However, this weekend he is expecting to be in the podium fight and is aiming to end the regular season in a strong way before the Showdown begins.

"While it was amazing to get the win and have a stronger weekend last time at Cadwell Park," Bridewell said.

"We haven’t yet got to the point where we can be confident that we are as strong as that at every round. We’re probably more optimistic, but until we roll out, we’re not sure where we will be.

"Donington is a bit like Cadwell in that the rider plays a big part in performance, but you also need the bike to be operating strongly in every area because there’s hard braking and acceleration as well as fast, flowing sections.

"The weekend schedule is tough, running three races on Sunday, because the build-up and the approach is what takes it out of you as much as the race itself. It will be hard, but it’s not looking like it will be too hot, and that’s good because mentally and physically, you need to be on the ball.

"I expect to be fighting for the podium, and it’s not too late to finish the season strong. After this weekend the Showdown changes things a bit, but the strong riders who have a consistently strong bike are always going to be in the best place."
