British Superbike star James Westmoreland has split with Rob McElnea's Motorpoint Yamaha team after just eight rounds of this year's championship but is confident of securing another seta before the Cadwell Park round.
Westmoreland has proved he is able to ride Superbike after spending three years in British Supersport by qualifying in the top ten at every race but the Yorkshireman hasn't been able to find a setup on race tyres that will carry him to the chequered flag while running at the front. The move leaves McElnea with no current riders but Tommy Bridewell could take a seat following a run out at Cadwell Park.
"It's a shame to split with Rob because we have done well in free practices and qualifying, we juts haven't been able to find the pace over a race distance and we have both come to the conclusion it would be better to try separate routes," said Westmoreland, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.
"Rob had been good to me this year but the results just haven't come so we decided to part. I am confident I can secure another ride for the last four rounds and finish the season on a high."
