Winners and losers at the Sepang MotoGP test

Stairway to Heaven

Alex Rins
When all the laps were added up, subtracted, divided, averaged, put into Excel, taken out of Excel, and then checked and ticked by Sigismund, the mad maths master, Rins had the the most consistently-fast laptimes of day three.

Pecco Bagnaia
A rookie has got absolutely no business breaking the outright lap record at a track he has only ever seen before on a Moto2 bike. But no-one told the Pramac Ducati rider, as he set the second-quickest time of the test overall.

Maverick Vinales
Second only to Rins in the consistency stakes, Vinales was beaming about his new-found used tyre grip and better corner entry due. Was fast on a one-lap time attack too.

Highway to Hell

Hafizh Syahrin
Slowest of the regular riders, 2.5s off the pace on his factory KTM at his home track. It is his first full season but the Malaysian is going to have to get his shit together.

Andrea Iannone
Couldn’t take part in a majority of the test due an infection that was allegedly the result of some cosmetic surgery. No, really…

Karel Abraham
Fast cementing his reputation as someone who really shouldn’t be there.
