The 2020 Moto3 World Champion will not continue in the Grand Prix paddock after the 2025 Moto2 season.
Ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix, Albert Arenas confirmed that he will be leaving the Grand Prix paddock at the end of the 2025 Moto2 season.
The Spaniard entered the Grand Prix paddock as a permanent rider midway through the 2016 Moto3 World Championship with the Peugeot MC Saxoprint squad.
From 2017 to 2020, he continued in the Moto3 World Championship, but with the Aspar Team. During his four full seasons with the Spanish team, he claimed six victories and four further podiums, as well as the 2020 Moto3 World Championship.
Arenas went on to join the Moto2 World Championship with the Aspar Team in 2021, but after difficult 2021 and 2022 seasons with Aspar, they parted ways, and he signed for the Red Bull KTM Ajo squad.
During his one year with the Red Bull KTM Ajo team, Arenas claimed one podium and moved on to his third different team in Moto2 for the 2024 season.
Arenas has spent the last two years with the Gresini Moto2 squad and has had a podium finish to his name. After losing his seat with the Italian team for 2026, he struggled to secure a future in the Grand Prix paddock.
The 28-year-old has now confirmed that his racing future will not be in the Grand Prix paddock, but will continue elsewhere in 2026.
"A stage is closing," Arenas said on social media.
"The book I started writing at just 7 years old will reach its end in Valencia.
"My journey in the MotoGP World Championship will come to an end, without fully fulfilling the dream and goal that have accompanied me since I was a child.
"Thank you to everyone who has supported me.
He added: "Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed this journey with me, to those who have supported me, followed me,& lifted me up during the tough moments.
"This isn’t an ending. In any case, it’s a new book."
