Aleix Espargaro has been declared unfit for the Hungarian Grand Prix after arriving at Balaton Park on Thursday morning.
After arriving at Balaton Park, ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Aleix Espargaro has been declared unfit to ride as a stand-in for Somkiat Chantra.
The Spaniard, who became a Honda Test Rider at the start of the 2025 season, broke a bone in his hand during his professional cycling debut in last month's Tour of Austria.
However, Espargaro had recovered from his injury and had accepted the LCR Honda IDEMITSU seat for the Hungarian Grand Prix. But it has now been revealed that the 36-year-old suffered another cycling injury a few days ago.
"While it initially seemed minor, he arrived at the track on Thursday morning with severe back pain," a team statement continued.
"Medical examinations have revealed that his L3 vertebra is affected. He is now returning to Barcelona to undergo further tests at Hospital Universitari Dexeus.
"Given the circumstances, Somkiat Chantra will not be replaced this weekend.
"The IDEMITSU Honda LCR team thanks Aleix for his willingness to help and wishes him a speedy recovery."
Espargaro was Honda's only option to replace the recovering Chantra this weekend, as fellow Test Rider, Takaaki Nakagami, is also recovering from knee ligament damage that he sustained at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.
This weekend's Grand Prix would have been Espargaro's fourth appearance of the season and his first with LCR Honda.
